RETHINK

Rethink is about reducing my interpretation of Maria Bartuszová's work to find a certain purity. I started with a women’s wardrobe, and not fashion. It was important for me to rethink basics and make them relevant for today. Familiar shapes in unfamiliar fabrics and unfamiliar shapes in new fabrics and with new detailing.

Maria Bartuszová - Tree c. 1987

HER

She is a true contemporary. A woman who is uniquely herself and has done well because of her authenticity. She oversees a large creative team and is on the board of a few foundations within the art/fashion sector. She sees the world with boundless opportunity and needs a wardrobe where every piece is as dynamic as she is.

COLOR PALETTE

My color palette was inspired by the tonality of Bartusovas’ work, using

plaster, twine, wood, and stone as her main medium. I was captivated by the earthy, grey-purples from the stone, the beautiful pinkish, puddy colors from the wood, and ivory from her seminal medium; plaster.

DROP COAT

For this collection I wanted to pay homage to the voluminous quality in Bartuszovas’ work. Here I have incorporated that with a generous cut and drapery. Using her tying technique and a placid medium as a springboard.

I was inspired by the positive and negative shapes that Bartuszova was able to create in her work and for this look, I wanted to echo that simplicity.

FABRIC STORY

The fabric story is about drape, visual comforts and textures that create a fresh and inviting feeling. In one case, I created a custom woven novelty fabric. Every inch of this fabric is different from the last which creates a subtle rustic aesthetic.

RECYCLED DENIM

Twist silk jersey tee and recycled denim skirt with fringe insert I developed for this look.

This look was inspired by the asymmetrical linear cracks in Bartuszovas’ work. The unpredictable lines and jagged texture is part of the beauty.
